Recipe for the New Year

These are a few emails that I have received lately that have really touched my heart. I try not to forward too many anymore and sometimes the ones I get just happen to come at the right time! I want to share them in my blog so I can read them again and again and just truly take them in.

GREAT RECIPE FOR THE NEW YEAR

1. Take a 10-30 minute walk every day. And while you walk, smile. It is the ultimate anti-depressant.

2. Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day. Talk to God about what is going on in your life.

3. When you wake up in the morning complete the following statement, "My purpose is to__________ today. I am thankful for______________."

4. Eat more foods that grow on trees and plants and eat less food that is manufactured in plants.

5. Drink green tea and plenty of water. Eat blueberries, wild Alaskan salmon, broccoli , almonds & walnuts.

6. Try to make at least three people smile each day.

7. Don't waste your precious energy on gossip, energy vampires, issues of the past, negative thoughts or things you cannot control. Instead invest your energy in the positive!

8. Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and dinner like a college kid with a maxed out charge card.

9. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.

10. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.

11. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.

12. You are not so important that you have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.

13. Make peace with your past so it won't spoil the present.

14. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.

15. No one is in charge of your happiness except you.

16. Frame every so-called disaster with these words: "In five years, will this matter?"

17. Forgive everyone for everything.

18. GOD heals everything - but you have to ask Him.

19. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.

20. Remember that you are too blessed to be stressed.

and my motto-buy cute shoes and you can never have too many girls night outs....it makes you a better wife, friend & mother!!!!

God's Beauty

Sometimes it's hard to see God's beauty in the world of laundry piles, carpools, dirty diapers and leftover dinners. And yet, if we believe that in Him we live and move and have our being, there is something in me that dares to hope that it might be possible to experience His beauty in our everyday life.Perhaps I've been looking for God's everyday beauty in the wrong places. It surely is not found in a Pottery Barn catalog or on HGTV. Instead, it is found here, in the sound of children's voices, the hum of a wash machine, the gurgling of the dishwasher, the loud chirps of the bird, and the turning of storybook pages. His glory is found in how we serve one another, in speaking kindly to each other, and in helping a child with his homework. His majesty is in sleepy eyelashes resting on a soft face, hair sticking out of a ponytail and fingers learning to tie shoelaces. The toys and backpacks that never seem to get put away, and the dishes piled in the sink are testament to a life being lived, together, in all its colorful, beautiful chaos.

And there is beauty in making something work, even when it's hard. There are times that we must turn to each other and decide to stick it out, no matter what. There are days of uncertainty, dysfunction and imperfection that make us rely completely on His strength, or we could not bear it. It is in those times that His beauty can find US, astound us, and rest upon us when we least expect it. He will settle on our hearts and cover the harsh edges with a blanket of grace.

I want to be more aware of His presence as I love and serve the family that He has given me.
